Meet Ali Sujad

Born here.
Built from here.

Maldives Holiday Escape was created out of a simple conviction: that the people best placed to show you a destination are the ones who grew up there. Not the ones who've read about it, or visited a handful of times, or built a business from a desk in another country.

Ali Sujad, Founder and Managing Director of Maldives Holiday Escape, was born and raised in Vaikaradhoo — a real Maldivian island in Haa Dhaal Atoll, far from the tourist trail. He built his career at some of the most acclaimed resorts in the world, including Hilton Maldives Irufushi, Conrad Maldives Rangali Island, Crossroads Maldives, Waldorf Astoria Maldives Ithaafushi, Fairmont Sirru Fen Fushi, and Kuda Villingili — learning the art of world-class hospitality from the inside, at the highest level.

He then spent years travelling the world across 30+ countries — learning what it truly means to be a guest, how travel changes people, how it builds bridges, and how it can give back as much as it takes.

Today he is based in Feevah, Shaviyani Atoll, with his wife Shaazy. Maldives Holiday Escape is the result of all of that — a travel company with genuine roots, genuine knowledge, and a genuine commitment to the islands and communities it serves.

Where it all began

Vaikaradhoo,
Haa Dhaal Atoll

Vaikaradhoo is not on most tourist maps. It sits in the far north of the Maldives, in Haa Dhaal Atoll — a real island community where fishing boats leave before dawn, where children play on coral roads, where neighbours share meals and evenings without ceremony.

Ali's father was a farmer — a man who travelled to many islands across the Maldives during the seasons, working the land, knowing the soil, knowing the people. He carried with him the kind of quiet dignity that belongs to someone who understands that the real wealth of a place is in its community, not its commerce.

Growing up watching his father move between islands, building trust with people through honest work and genuine care, Ali absorbed something that no hospitality textbook can teach. He learned that the deepest form of welcome is not a gesture — it is a way of being.

"My father farmed across these islands his whole life. He didn't call it hospitality. He just called it how you treat people. That's the only definition I've ever needed."

This upbringing — shaped by a father who moved through island communities with kindness and purpose — is the foundation of everything Maldives Holiday Escape does. The emphasis on authenticity, connection, and community empowerment doesn't come from a marketing strategy. It comes from home.

Hospitality experience at

What we stand for

Luxury, redefined.

The luxury Ali defines is not a thread count or a champagne brand. It is humanity. Kindness. Care. The kind of hospitality that forms when you genuinely mean it — when connection between people is the whole point, not a side effect.

Authenticity. Originality. Community. These are not marketing words here. They are the reason Maldives Holiday Escape exists — to give island communities a meaningful opportunity to thrive, to share their lives with the world on their own terms, while staying close to their families and the places they love.

01

Humanity before hospitality

Real hospitality isn't a service standard — it's a human impulse. The warmth you feel when someone genuinely cares whether you are comfortable, fed, and happy. That is what every experience we design is built around.

02

Kindness as a practice

Ali learned from his father and from every community he has passed through that kindness is not a gesture — it is a way of moving through the world. It costs nothing and changes everything. It is at the centre of how we operate.

03

Authentic, not curated

We do not stage experiences. We do not rehearse communities for visitors. We open real doors, to real homes, to real lives. The authenticity our guests encounter is not a product — it is simply what is there.

04

Connection is the destination

The most meaningful travel moments are never the landmarks. They are the conversations, the shared meals, the trust that builds between strangers who discover they are not so different. We design for those moments.

05

Empowering communities

Ali's deepest purpose is to create genuine opportunity for island communities to thrive — to earn from tourism while staying close to their families, their islands, and the daily life they love. Every trip we run serves that goal.

06

Learned from the road

Thirty countries. Six continents. Couchsurfing hosts, farming communities, strangers who became teachers. Every journey shaped how Ali sees the world — and how he brings it back to the Maldives for the people he guides.

A traveller first

Educated by
the people I met

Ali has travelled to more than 30 countries — not as a tourist, but as someone who goes looking for the real version of every place. Couchsurfing. Workaway programmes. Village stays. Community kitchens. Conversations with strangers that went on for hours and changed how he saw the world.

What he found, everywhere he went, is that the most memorable experiences have almost nothing to do with the attraction and everything to do with the person standing beside you. A farmer in Southeast Asia who shared his lunch. A family in Africa who invited him in without a second thought. A community festival where he was the only outsider and felt entirely at home.

These are the things he saw. These are the things he experienced. And this is what he carries back to every trip he designs in the Maldives — the quiet conviction that people are the destination.

Our community mission

Empowering
island communities

Tourism has transformed parts of the Maldives. But that transformation has been uneven — concentrated in resort islands and popular local hubs, while hundreds of inhabited islands have seen almost nothing of it.

We believe those islands deserve the chance to benefit too — on their own terms, at their own pace, in ways that strengthen rather than disrupt their culture and way of life.

Every visit we make to a new island is part of a longer project: showing communities what tourism could look like for them, building relationships, and creating the conditions for something sustainable to grow.

Community engagement sessions

Structured conversations between our guests and local islanders — about tourism, culture, the future. Ideas shared both ways, not just one way.

Beach cleans & environmental action

Every island visit includes a beach clean, plastic collection, or tree planting session — done alongside locals, not separately from them.

Guesthouses & local homestays

We stay with local families and guesthouses, putting money directly into household incomes rather than international hotel groups.

Heritage & culture preservation

By bringing visitors who are genuinely curious, we help communities see the value of their own heritage — and find a reason to protect it.

Why book with us

Eight reasons travellers
choose Maldives Holiday Escape

You deal with a real person

Ali reads every enquiry personally and responds with genuine advice — not a template, not a chatbot, not a junior agent following a script.

Local knowledge that goes deep

We don't just know the Maldives from visits and brochures. We grew up here. We know which islands are right for which travellers at which time of year.

Every itinerary is bespoke

We don't sell packages off a shelf. Every trip is designed around the individual — your dates, your interests, your budget, your group. No two itineraries are alike.

Access that money can't buy elsewhere

Homestays on islands with no guesthouses. Community dinners not listed online. Wildlife spots only fishermen know. These come from relationships built over a lifetime.

Transparent, fair pricing

We tell you exactly what is and isn't included. No hidden fees, no surprise charges, no vague inclusions. What we quote is what you pay.

Support before, during & after

We're reachable on WhatsApp throughout your trip. If anything changes — weather, ferry, accommodation — we handle it. You focus on the experience.

Travel that benefits the Maldives

Booking with us supports local families, community guesthouses, and islands that rarely see international visitors. Your trip makes a genuine difference.

You'll come back

Most of our guests return. Not necessarily to the same islands — but to us. Because they know the experience will be genuine, personal, and unlike anything they've had before.
